The "Perfect Fit" Blueprint: How to Measure Yourself for Indian Ethnic Wear

Goal: To reduce size-related returns by teaching customers the difference between body measurements and garment measurements.

Introduction: Shopping for a Kurta is not the same as buying a Western T-shirt. In Indian ethnic wear, the "fit" is what defines the "grace." At Thooriga Boutique, we want you to feel confident the moment you unzip your package. Here is your step-by-step guide to finding your perfect Thooriga fit.

The "Ease" Rule (Body vs. Garment): The biggest mistake shoppers make is choosing a garment that matches their exact body measurements. In ethnic wear, you need "Ease" (extra room for movement).

  • For a Regular Fit: Add 2 inches to your body bust measurement.

  • For a Loose/Comfort Fit: Add 3–4 inches.

How to Measure (The 3 Essentials):

  1. The Shoulder: Place the tape from the edge of one shoulder to the other. In Indian wear, if the shoulder is too wide, the sleeves will droop; if too narrow, the bust will pull.

  2. The Bust: Measure around the fullest part of your chest. Make sure the tape is level across your back.

  3. The Hip: For straight-cut Kurtas, this is vital. Measure the widest part of your hips. If your hip measurement is larger than your bust, always size up to avoid the side-slits (chaks) pulling open.

Pro Tip: Always measure yourself while wearing the type of bra you plan to wear with the outfit. A padded bra vs. a non-padded one can change your size by a full inch!
